CHOOSE Act Becomes Alabama Law

In the previous edition of Outlook, we reported that important school choice legislation in Alabama — the Creating Hope and Opportunity for Our Students’ Education (CHOOSE) Act — was advancing. The legislation has now officially passed both chambers and was signed by the governor. The bill grants families $7,000 education savings accounts for costs like private school tuition starting in the 2025-26 school year, heralding a new era of educational pluralism in Alabama.

South Carolina School Choice Update

The South Carolina House Education and Public Works Committee has passed legislation that would open up the state’s new means-tested ESA program to all families by 2026-27. Under the existing program, families will be able to access $6,000 starting this fall for various education-related expenses at both private and out-of-district public schools.
